Porcelain painting – a fine art

Did you ever ask yourself how you can paint a porcelain plate or cup? Or how people can paint a beautiful vase or tile? The principle is easy. You take, for instance, a white porcelain plate and paint it with porcelain paint. After painting the plate is fired for several hours at 800 degrees in a oven. The paint will blend with the glaze and a personal designed plate is ready.

Often several firings are necessary to get the best results. An advantage is that the painted plate can be washed in a dishwasher if you want to use it. After reading this you can see this painting technique is closer to you that you may think.

The Dutch Porcelain Painting Association (Abbr.: PSG in Dutch) is the only association in the Netherlands of (active) porcelain painters. As a member of the association you can become acquainted with this artistic old painting technique and, with some help from teachers or other painters, practise it yourself.
